JBCN Learners Are Contemporary Math Explorers

Founded by visionary Chairperson Mrs. Pinky Dalal, JBCN Borivali, JBCN Parel and JBCN Oshiwara are academies where every child’s innate curiosity is nurtured, creating a life-long love for learning.

This love for learning is apparent in their interaction with the First In Math® Online Programme, says Oshiwara Principal Sudeshna Sengupta. “First In Math has taken Oshiwara by storm to such an extent that English teachers came up to ask whether there is something similar for English to reach the living rooms. Maths is all that the students want to do when they reach home. Our small but enthusiastic bunch of kids and their parents see the value of this programme in creating a generation of critical thinkers.”

This was the goal set by Vice-principal Mr. Raymond Fernandes after his first brush with the programme. The combined energy of classes V, VI and I EKAM has resulted in Oshiwara netting the highest average—approximately 5000 maths problems solved per student. Leading this stellar group is Sharvani Sampat of VI Ekam, having solved 40,000 problems and still going strong.

JBCN Parel proves that age is no barrier to achievement, as the young KG and 1st Grade learners have already solved more than 2,25,000 maths problems. “Kudos to I Eins and I Ena who lead this charge,” says CEO of First In Math India, Monica Patel. “Even with the youngest children, First In Math is designed to tap into a different way that children learn, the way their brains work in the real world. Students exposed to this natural form of learning—one that combines creative and logical thought—are far more engaged than they would be with rote drills.”

Patel says she is amazed by the perseverance of many young students, such as Parel first grader Ishaan Samir Patel, who has solved close to 20,000 problems and continues to challenge himself.

Closer to Oshiwara, JBCN Borivali is a role model at integrating FIM into the school’s culture. The desire to compete and succeed is proven by their performance of 6,15,000 problems solved to date. Teacher duo, Ms. Ria and Ms. Ashmita, are masters at motivating students to set their sights on an ultimate goal of scaling the International Rankings. Krishna Balaji of V Uno, is now ranked among the Top 100 players worldwide—positioning himself in 67th place among 15 lakh First In Math players.

Patel is excited about the future. “As eager learners from all three schools investigate First In Math’s interactive, age-appropriate challenges, they are developing math fluency, problem-solving, critical thinking and strategy skills—all valuable assets for the contemporary maths explorers!”
